Filter Brewery Wastewater to Reduce Disposal Costs and Save Water

By January 15, 2019March 12th, 2024No Comments

Brewery wastewater is not easily disposed of and can be a major operating expense. This dilute wastewater is mainly composed of water, grains, and fermentation by-products which can result in high surcharges when disposed of in the sewer system. For plants not connected to a sewer, the cost to haul wastewater to nearby processing locations can be steep.

Digested Organics specializes in organic waste management and provides customized solutions to help breweries take care of their wastewater. We offer a unique stainless steel ultrafiltration system, which can remove suspended solids, a fraction of the organic matter, and large fractions of the nitrogen and phosphorus. See the below data table for a brewery wastewater sample we recently put through the ultrafilter, along with the picture of the raw wastewater, filtrate, and concentrate.

For customers that want an even cleaner effluent, we use our Two-Step Reverse Osmosis System.  This is a combination of forward and reverse osmosis that produces very clean water that just has trace amounts of sodium–ideal for reuse onsite, direct or indirect discharge, or sewer disposal with little or no surcharges. Below is a representative data table as well as a picture showing the raw wastewater, the TSRO concentrate, and the clean water effluent.
