Two-Step Reverse Osmosis Removes PFAS + PFOA

By May 20, 2018March 12th, 2024No Comments

We recently completed testing with our Two-Step Reverse Osmosis system to demonstrate it can remove PFAS and PFOS from landfill leachate.  Here’s some background on the issue:

  • Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is a class of man-made chemical compounds that have been manufactured since the 1940’s.
  • PFOS and PFOA are two of the most widely known and studied PFAS compounds.
  • Due to their unique chemistry, they don’t break down in the environment, they bioaccumulate in higher organisms, and are difficult to remediate.
  • These chemicals were widely used in Teflon cookware, fabric protectants (e.g., Scotchguard), consumer packaging, fume suppressants at chrome plating shops, and as Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) for military and commercial aviation fields.

If you operate a landfill or have a source of process wastewater or groundwater contaminated with PFAS/PFOS, please call us today to learn how we can help!

Our Two-Step Reverse Osmosis system removed all analyzed PFAS/PFOS chemicals to below the detection limits of the lab–see the data  table below:
