With the new regulations in place from the global COVID-19 pandemic, craft breweries are facing the collapse of on-premise consumption, meaning that they have a lot of beer that is currently going stale. Some distilleries in Vermont have come to the rescue. According to an article in The Bulletin called “Distilleries are turning stale beer into coronavirus whiskey,” WhistlePig distillery is receiving roughly 6,500 gallons of stale studs per day for use as fermented grain, which is the building block of whiskey.
The article states that breweries are providing the stale beer free of shipping costs, which actually helps them save on dumping fees.
